What is House Proud?
House Proud is a site that promotes learning about a house's original style to guide
decoration and renovation decisions. See about for more information.
Why don't you have all house styles here?
We have focused on styles that relate to homes that someone in the
Middle class can actually live in. Many of the homes styles and stories related to a new
house style actually enabling the Middle class to own their first home.
House Proud is definitely planning on expanding its repetoire, but initially we had to put
a stake in the ground with the styles you see described here.
Why don't you have the __________ house style?
See previous answer. If you can make a good case for a particular house style that is not
covered here that fits the focus on Middle class housing please send
us your suggestions.
Where do you get your information?
I probably could not even list all of the sources. Much has been collected through research
in books and on the web. Another great source of information has been living in a city
like Toronto which has a very good catalog of Middle class housing over the last 150 years.
Is House Proud a commercial website?
Initially House Proud is a "passively" commercial web site. What we mean by that is that
we include ads by Google Adsense and make an income from referrals to other commercial sites.
In the future House Proud hopes to be more actively commercial by enabling the purchase of
materials, finishings and hardware that go along with the advice and articles posted on this
site.
I can't find my city?
House Proud has not ventured to enumerate every city and town in the know world. But we
have made it easy for people to add their city or town to the list so they can place
house profiles in that city. Simply click on the Add City link below the city selection box.
I can't find my neighbourhood?
Like city, we have made it easy for people to add their neighbourhood to a city.
Simply select the city you would like to add the neighbourhood to and
click on the Add Neighbourhood link below the neighbourhood selection box.
How do I add a house profile?
Choose the city your house is located in (if you can't find your city go here). Choose the
neighbourhood your house is located in (if you can't find your city go here). Zoom the map
so that your location is clearly shown. Click
on the map where your house is located (sometimes it is easier to specify your house when
the Hybrid view is selected).
How do I edit my house profile?
When you created your house profile you would have been obliged to enter an email address
and password. With your house profile diplayed click on the Update Profile link, and enter
your email and password.
What if I forgot my password?
Click on the Forgot Password link and then click on the Send button. This will send an email
to the address associated with the profile with the password.
How do I delete my profile?
At the bottom of the update screen for a house profile there is a link to Delete Profile.
How do I delete a city or neighbourhood I created?
There is no way on the site to delete a city or neighbourhood. If you would like a
city or neighbourhood deleted please contact House Proud.
